The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has warned the public to be vigilant of messages from strangers trying to start a conversation or those luring victims into a relationship as it may be a scam.
Almost everyone has come across a scam and this year, Scams Awareness Week (26-30 August) is encouraging Australians to share their story to help stop scams.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority and local telcos have been working to fight scams, blocking over 336.7 million scam texts since July 2022, according to figures released by the regulator.
Consumers are being warned to watch out for scam websites impersonating high-profile Australian retailers when shopping online this Black Friday, Cyber Monday sale weekend on 24 to 27 November.
