The Federal Government’s announcement that it will move to strengthen Australia’s merger laws, bringing Australia into line with most other developed economies, will benefit Australian consumers and businesses of all sizes, as well as the wider economy, according to the head of the competition watchdog, the ACCC.
The competition regulator and enforcement agency the ACCC is seeking views on a court enforceable undertaking which has been offered by Industry Committee Administration (ICA), the company representing three Australian payment services providers seeking to merge.
Australia’s competition watchdog, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, says it is keeping a close watch on global anti-trust efforts focusing on major digital platforms, including the US Department of Justice’s recent case against Google and proposed new competition laws in Europe.
