US announces fresh restrictions on H-1B visas

The US has announced fresh curbs on H-1B visas, with the Department of Homeland Security unveiling what it described as an interim final rule "to protect US workers, restore integrity to the H-1B program and better guarantee that H-1B petitions are approved only for qualified beneficiaries and petitioners".

The number of rejections of H-1B visas, particularly for Indians, has gone up markedly in the last quarter of the 2017 fiscal year in the US, according to data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services collated by the National Foundation for American Policy, a policy-based research group based in Arlington, Virginia.
