TPG Telecom and Ericsson have completed the virtualisation of TPG’s core network and a new partnership to deploy its 5G Core for standalone 5G networks.

Telstra is partnering with Ericsson and the Melbourne Cricket Club to install 5G into the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in readiness for the AFL grand final next Saturday.

Telstra and Ericsson claim to have completed Australia's first end-to-end 5G standalone call at the 5G Innovation Centre on the Gold Coast, over the 3.6GHz spectrum and using Ericsson's Baseband 6630, Radio AIR6488 and a 5G SA device based on a MediaTek chipset.

Ericsson readies for 5G rollout

Ericsson is expanding its end-to-end 5G platform by adding new hardware and software products to the Ericsson Radio System portfolio, which it says further enhances the agility and speed with which communication service providers can roll out their 5G networks.
