The greatest threat to network security isn’t malware or other external threats, says Aruba chief product and technology officer David Hughes. “There’s a strong argument that it’s treating networking and security as two separate silos.”
Founded by David Hughes in 2004, Silver Peak has grown to become the global SD-WAN leader, so much so that it was acquired by HPE's Aruba in September 2020, strengthening Aruba's Edge Services Platform, “helping to advance enterprise cloud transformation with a comprehensive edge-to-cloud networking solution covering all aspects of wired, wireless local area networking (LAN) and wide area networking (WAN).”
GUEST OPINION by David Hughes, founder of Silver Peak and senior vice president of the WAN business at Aruba: If enterprises are to realise the full promise of the cloud and digital transformation, while supporting a new work-from-anywhere normal, they must transform both their WAN and security architectures — not just one or the other.
Broadband and hybrid wide area networks company Silver Peak has expanded its collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), with the integration of its Unity EdgeConnect SD-WAN edge platform with the new AWS Transit Gateway Network Manager.

One of my predictions for the wide area network (WAN) in 2018 focuses on how the new WAN edge enables improved security architectures. I believe there are three primary ways in which the new WAN edge will enable improved security architectures for enterprises building an SD-WAN.
Starting in 2018, most enterprises will adopt a ‘cloud-first’ SD-WAN architecture designed to support the ongoing evolution in their application mix efficiently and effectively, predicts David Hughes, founder and CEO of Silver Peak.
Following the initial barrage of service provider SD-WAN announcements this year, 2017 will see a dichotomy between the providers that deliver mature, scalable offerings and those that rushed to market with a minimal viable response to demand. That is the contention of Dr David Hughes, chief executive and founder of Silver Peak.
